Auld Lang Syne

The song Auld Lang Syne is one often sung on New Year's Eve in the English-speaking world as a nostalgic ritual. It roughly translates to "Times Gone By" A decent page about it is at <a href="http://www.robertburns.org/encyclopedia/AuldLangSyne.5.html">Robert Burns.org</a>

In 2000 at a large multi-day New Year gathering, Earth re-wrote the lyrics to this to meet the same tune because he found the original words to not be terribly meaningful. They were transcribed onto large posters and sung by the group of 100 or so people while the piano was played to the tune.

Modernized Single-stanza Lyrics for Auld Lang Syne:

 Should old acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind?
 Or shall we dance and reminisce and sing of auld lang syne?
 For moments of the years gone by and to the coming times,
 We'll take a dose of friendship yet, for auld lang syne.

 For times gone by, my friends, for times gone by.  etc.

The 'dose' wording is intended to reflect and update the alcohol reference of 'drink a cup of kindness' phrasing.
